More Prototypes
for the upcoming blink-182 tours, some friends have been working on customizing my signature fender basses. the first set of ideas came in this morning from our eternal friends at tokidoki. these are the very first hatchlings of ideas, but i’m putting them up so that everyone can see the development from idea to stage. just got these five minutes ago. they’re looking great already. please tell me what you think!

I’m not gonna lie to you. I think those look really cool. Very colorful and very unique. I’m personally a bigger fan of the purple but why not have both? Is there a plan for custom inlays in the neck of the bass?

both designs are pretty sweet. although i have to say the silver wins, only because you can see whats going on with the characters and details on that one a lot easier. the purple one just seems darker. but the donut UFO is pretty damn awesome on the purple one.

My response is mostly positive. I like how different it is from the past bass… it’s indicative of how you’ve changed as a person, just as I hope the new blink stuff will be indicative of how y’all have changed as musicians. Change is good, no matter how wonderful the stuff from the past might be.
I also like that even though it’s different, it’s not “matured” meaning, it’s not serious and boring now. It’s still ridiculous, goofy, and colorful. It’s still YOU, which is awesome. Not watered down, just evolved. Word.

Both look awesome, but I think I like the purble better…? Maybe. I dont know. Even thought I think the purple is more cluttered in a way, it’s fun to keep looking for the little details, but I guess that is also true with the grey one. I definitely like the purble better because there are more lighting bolts visible and less stars (ok, it’s only one, but still…).

I like the ideas, but I think they should add a drumkit, in order to do TRVS a favour XD. Just joking but, I mean a kind of snare drum would improve the whole thing.
The vinyls are rad. Background should be pink.

I’m not gonna lie Mark, I’m not really into any of these designs. I think you should go with a white bass and either the blink-182 smiley logo in like a gray-black-blue fade or a black bass with an image of that octopus in gray with angry pink eyes. All I know is that tokidoki stuff just isn’t the way to go.

The purple guitar brings to mind the intro to ’saved by the bell’. I’m just talking the blue and yellow zig zagging lines and color scheme. But that skullburger in the middle pulls the piece together….in a fast food sort of way. The design of the bottom one is cool.

Purple guitar reminds me of ‘SAVED BY THE BELL’ Maybe because it was on at 5:30 this morning while i was eating cereal, I don’t know. but the color scheme and everything is two thumbs down on the purple one. in my mind. Gray one looks nice for sure.

Here are my thoughts. I think the first one is pretty cool.
The second one has too many black stars on it, and I feel like the gray looks kinda bad for it. There should be a little pink (maybe like the big pink star on the first one) and maybe try other colors for the background. Maybe some different tokidoki characters on it, like Sandy or Moofia characters. Needs green and pink somewhere.

sometimes, when we try to make things rich…we do the oposite, we make them poor. i think thats the problem with those designs. a lot of people could do better things, a lot of artist would like to make a disign for u i think, starting with me hahaha, so try to make them get a 10, not a 5. thanks for reading

I think in short as much as i like purple this design is for the ladies…. also it’s a little confusing hard to pull out individual elements within the design. The grey design works better with the different elements, although apart from having lots of sweet characters. I’m not sure what represents you or Blink… But I didn’t hear your brief…. My own opinions of the design aside, wouldnt half of it be covered up by pickguard? And besides, even if you went without a pickguard, there’d still be chunks taken out of the design by pickups and knob. Just something to think about.

I’ve not gone through many of the other responses so I dunno if anyone agrees with me when I say they’re good graphics, for a t-Shirt or a hoodie, but not for a guitar body.
I think solid colors always look best, get your bass done in like neon pink, that glows in the dark, that would be awesome…

Good Designs but as some other people had said its bit chinese looking and bit too emo looking -its not really Blink style i personally think, they can be better! But whaever you choose will be awsome!

well,i play bass too and i like the colors from your first prototype but it are to many pictures and thinks on the bassbody.it looks like a emobass -.- you’re a punk-rocker,not a emo-rocker.and you’re our favourite bassist
my idea for you.take your old pink bass(i love them)and brush the pickguard turquoise.and take a maple fingerboard.that’s the hit!!!
i think my prototype/design is a nice combi between ”enema of the state“times and the new “blink 182“befour hiatus times.

If your gonna go with the cartoon look, aleast make it theme’d to the Mark, Tom and Travis show. With the Punk Rock Bunny, Aliens, Banana man, Space Pods, and a title somewhere that says Crappy Punk Rock since 1994 or whenever. Now that whould be sick. Than you chould add logos from each album on your frets. Now that whould be the raddest signature ever made. I’d buy it at any price as long as you make It all American this time around please. I personally think its a bit much. Kind of overdone you know? Like a scene gang got ahold of it. Mabye if you just have one pattern like the skull star pattern. But thats just me. Ive always been more fond of solid color on my basses aside from slapping some stickers on. Plus simplicity always seemed to fit your bass very well indeed. In my honest opinion Im not fond of either of them really. Though I love your plaid one lol. If youd like a suggestion, make one of your basses tye-dye lol. Thatd be pretty funky.

They’re both cute! I like the purple one but I like the green angry dino from the 2nd prototype to be added to the first one.

too many drawings! But there are some cool colors. You could make a purple and yellow bass, like,.. i dunno, checker pattern in yellow and purple, that’d be rad. Otherwise, you could also go for a big mickey mouse or smth like that. Try to collaborate with Disney if you can!
So anyway, of those too tokidoki, i prefer the purple one.

I love tokidoki, I have adios and ciaociao vinyl toys ,and well after reading the comments and reading that almost anyone knows what tokidoki is, here is a description:
Tokidoki is a japanese influenced style (not japanese) brand, created by the Italian designer Simone Legno (now living in LA). Tokidoki have made collaborations with huge brands such as mercedes benz, sanrio (hello kitty), nike and lesportsac
Tokidoki designed the tour bus for +44 when they were touring in the honda civic tour , and Mark has tokidoki clothes (so I´m envy for that cuz’ i haven’t seen one)
and well now is kinda designing the mark’s new bass and MAN I’M LOVING IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
