Updated 2008-09-27 10:08:46They started off with the well-known "21st Century Digital Boy" like they do often during this tour. Slightly different from other bands who like to hit it off with the new song from the new album. Well, the second one was that song, the new song from the new album, "New Dark Ages". It is a great song and they performed it with energy and intensity.
Greg really likes to get the crowd going with some sweet one-liners. The problem with Montreal is most of the crowd don't get it 'cause they're french. So they just cheer and it doesn't make sense. Nonetheless, the Montreal crowd was really into it for this show. They were either drunk or stoned or both.. or maybe just in the mood for a great quality punk show from solid artists like Bad Religion.
They played a lot of the classics including: "Suffer", "Anesthesia", "Big Bang", "News From The Front", "Come Join Us", "Flat Earth Society", "Recipe For Hate", "Generator", "Infected", "You", "American Jesus".. just to name a few.
I would have liked to experience songs such as: "Tiny Voices", "Them And Us", "Billy", "Misery And Famine", "It Must Feel Pretty Appealing", "Leave Mine To Me", "God Song".. maybe next time?
During the recall, I beleive Greg was accompanied by Jay and Brian as they offered the sweaty Montreal crowd an acoustic performance. The first song was something I've never heard before. Perhaps material that may appear on a future album? The part I liked about the acoustic set was "Bored And Extremely Dangerous" where Greg played the first part acoustically until the lights went out mid-song only to see the band explode back on the stage to complete the second part of the song full-electric! Solid moment! And how else can you end a memorable Bad Religion concert other than with "Sorrow".
In conclusion, this show was fantastic. It's good to see a slightly older crowd at concerts these days. They know better how to appreciate great musicians.
Updated 2008-09-29 10:50:00DijaySingh's review is pretty much spot-on so just refer to that. The show was intense and lenghty. They must've played a bit over 20 songs total. Usally 3 songs bursts then a short break to talk with the crowd a bit.
Only 8 people (I and 3 of my friends included) voted for the setlist on this site. And alot of the songs requested were played! The highlights for us were Come Join Us, Anesthesia, Flat Earth Society and Bored and Extremely Dangerous (complete with the transition, phone ring, etc.).
Part III would've rocked as well as 1000 other songs but hey, a show can only last so long huh?
The new acoustic song was "Won't somebody" and it is on the re-issue of New Maps of Hell.
Well worth the money, see you guys on the next tour!
