Bio:
2 Tone Runts is a politically conscious ska/punk band from the Twin Cities area, who have built a dedicated following. Formed in November 2006, the Runts have blended ska, reggae, punk, funk and radical politics into a unique sound that they call "Rasta punk with a little funk." This sextet mixes catchy trombone riffs with guitar, keyboard and vocal harmonies to create a sound all their own. Their stage presence is nothing short of energetic and powerful. Despite being one of the youngest bands in the Twin Cities, with an average age of 19, the Runts have earned a significant recognition within the Twin Cities social justice movement and have been requested to play numerous political demonstrations and fundraisers. They view the band as a powerful way to promote the struggle against war and for workers' and human rights. The political consciousness of the band members has been shaped by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the many crimes of the Bush administration.
The band's first public performance was on the steps of the Minnesota State Capitol on May 11, 2007, during the "Capitol Campout Against the War" organized by Youth Against War and Racism, a Twin Cities-based youth anti-war and counter-recruitment group. Since then they have been a fixture at local anti-war rallies and events, including performing on the State Capitol during the Republican National Convention. The Runts have also played at local Minneapolis venues including the Fine Line, the Varsity Theater, 400 Bar, Triple Rock and the Minnesota State Fair. They also performed alongside members of the legendary boy band 98 Degrees at an Open The Debates Rally which drew 1500 people to Orchestra Hall in September 2008.
The Runts try to play as many out of town shows as possible, despite lacking a tour van and money. Thus far they have played throughout Minnesota as well as Wisconsin and Michigan. In March 2009, the band is toured the midwest to promote the release of their debut full-length album "On The Front Line".
